Of All Things: this could be my theme song for life. The most notable songs that caught my attention on the album were the ones I didn’t already know by heart from the pre-release (songs that you NEED to listen to right now): The way that all of the songs seamlessly flowed together and moved from one after another gave me goosebumps, I loved how the breakups between the songs were barely noticeable.Ī classic note in all of G’s albums was not missing however, while he mixed modern day electronic beats, with booming bass beats and some mixes of background vocals reminiscent of something you would hear in a 20’s swing club (everyone knows G is a fan of the era, have you seen his up-do?! ) A mix of small bells and loud alarms mixed flawlessly together with a background bass that would be impossible for most people to not want to shake their tush’s too. Did they not know I was letting my inner hood-rat live?!? It was on repeat the entire time I was at work, and every time I was disturbed by a coworker I was a little irritated. For months I was getting snippets of the album from Spotify and the anticipation was so pent up that by the time I saw “When it’s dark out” listed under “new releases recommended for you” I let out a little Yelp… Possibly followed by a happy profanity or two… Not gonna lie.
I have to say I was starting to get worried. G released his latest and greatest last Friday on December 4th and the response couldn’t have been greater. And let me just say I have not been disappointed. I’ve been waiting a long time for young Gerald to release his new album.
